Ron TrentとJoe Claussellが立ち上げたレーベルSacred Medicineのローンチタイトルとして2023年7月にVinylでリリースされた「Black Magic Woman – The Revisions EP」が、およそ2年の月日を経てまさかのデジタルリリース。
Ron TrentによるOriginal Versionは、Marshall JeffersonとのユニットJungle WonzやLarry HeardとのThe Itでも知られるベテラン詩人Harry Dennisによる「女性の力」への力強いオードをフィーチャー。パーカッシブなリムアタックが効いたグルーヴィーなボトムに、ジャジーなキーボードやオルガンが絡む、コズミックでAFRO・DEEPなCHICAGOスタイルのグルーヴが展開される。
14分にわたるJoaquin’s Edits & Overdubs Versionでは、タフでファットなビートに乗せて、トリッピーかつサイケデリックなシンセが躍動する、強烈なインパクトを持つSPIRITUAL HOUSEの傑作。Bennett Pasterのシンセ・ソロをフィーチャーし、フロアを熱狂させる最高級のサウンド・ジャーニー。
加えて、西海岸の若手実力派CofloによるRemixも収録。こちらはOriginal Versionとは対照的に、よりソフトで温かみのあるオーガニックなDEEP HOUSEに仕上がっており、メロウでスムージーなグルーヴが心地よく響く。

The “Black Magic Woman – The Revisions EP” the launch title for the Sacred Medicine label founded by Ron Trent and Joe Claussell, which was released on vinyl in July 2023, has finally received an unexpected digital release after almost two years.
The Original Version by Ron Trent features a powerful ode to “the power of the feminine form” from veteran poet Harry Dennis, known for his work with Marshall Jefferson’s unit Jungle Wonz and Larry Heard’s The It. It unfolds as a cosmic and Afro-Deep Chicago-style groove with a groovy bottom end driven by percussive rim-shots, intertwined with jazzy keyboards and organs.
The 14-minute “Joaquin’s Edits & Overdubs Version” is a masterpiece of SPIRITUAL HOUSE with tremendous impact, where trippy and psychedelic synths soar over a tough and fat beat. Featuring a synth solo by Bennett Paster, it’s a top-tier sound journey that sets the dance floor on fire.
Additionally, the EP includes a Remix by rising West Coast talent Coflo. In contrast to the Original Version, this take is an organic DEEP HOUSE track that is softer and warmer, with a mellow and smooth groove that is utterly captivating.
