Brooklynレジェンドの1人であり、日本にも数多のファンを持つIan Fridayが、およそ10年振りとなる来日ツアーを敢行する。
滋賀のMOVEを皮切りに、名古屋のMAGO、六本木CUBEと3つの会場で行われる今回のツアー。各会場では、それぞれのエリアで活躍するローカルのDJ・ダンサー達も集結し、10年振りとなる来日公演を盛り上げる。
詩人であり、DJであり、プロデューサーであり、キュレーターであり、ソングライターでもある彼は、Timmy RegisfordのWBLSとTony HumphriesのKiss FMが、自身のHOUSEに対する初期の衝動源だったと語る。Paradise Garage、THE LOFT、SHELTERをはじめ、HOUSEを語るうえでは決して欠かすことの出来ないレガシーなシーンに数多く触れ、時には出演するなど、まさにカルチャーの生き字引のような存在。
過去の来日で15時間以上にも及ぶロングセットを披露したことは、当時から彼のことを知るファン達の間ではすっかり語り草となっている。10年振りとなる今回のツアーでは、一体どんなミュージックジャーニーを披露してくれるのか。ぜひ貴方もフロアで体感して欲しい。
Brooklyn legend Ian Friday, who boasts countless fans in Japan, will embark on his first Japan tour in approximately 10 years.
The tour will take place at three venues: MOVE in Shiga, MAGO in Nagoya, and CUBE in Roppongi. At each venue, local DJs and dancers active in their respective areas will gather to celebrate his first performance in Japan in a decade.
The poet, DJ, producer, curator, and songwriter has stated that Timmy Regisford’s WBLS and Tony Humphries’ Kiss FM were his initial source of inspiration for House music. Having been exposed to, and sometimes performed in, many essential legacy scenes for House, including Paradise Garage, THE LOFT, and SHELTER, he is truly a living witness to the culture.
His past visit to Japan, where he played a set lasting over 15 hours, is still widely talked about among fans who have known him since then. What kind of musical journey will he present on this tour after a 10-year hiatus? We sincerely hope you experience it on the dance floor.

NYアンダーグラウンドシーンで古くから活躍するブルックリン在住のDJ・サウンドクリエイター、Ian Friday。94年よりブルックリンで開催していたサンデーアフタヌーンパーティー”Tea Party“をオーガナイズ。このパーティーには、”Erykah Badu”, “Mos Def”, “Talib Kweli”, “Saundra St.Victor”, “Vernon Reid”, “Corey Glover”, “Saul Williams” 等のR&B、HIP HOPアーティストが参加していたこともあり、NYCでも話題のパーティーとして人気を集めていた。ダンサー、アーティストからも絶大な人気を誇っていたパーティーであったが、惜しくも2000年代初頭に休止になってしまっている。現在は、毎週行っているライブストリーミング配信”Twitch”による”Libation Live (https://www.twitch.tv/ianfriday)”でのMix Show、マンハッタン、ブルックリンと場所を変えながら開催している”Libation“を主宰し、自らもレジデントDJとして活躍。その他にも、Timmy Regisford主宰の”SHELTER”、Tony Touch主宰の”Funkbox NYC”を始め、イタリア、ロンドン、パリ、韓国等のクラブにもゲストDJとして度々プレイしている。厳選されたハウス、テクノ、ジャズ、アフロ、ラテン、レゲエ、ソウル、ロック、ガラージ、ディスコクラシックス等を自由自在にミックスする唯一無二のプレイスタイルは、地元のクラウドを始め、世界中のミュージックラバーからも絶大な支持を得ている。
また、NY老舗レーベルWest End Recordsに所属していた彼は、03年頃より本格的に制作活動を開始。自身初となる”Blaze / We Are One – Dub Mix (Rmx/King Street)”, “Blaze / The Found Love – Mix CD (Produce / West End)”, Ian名義での傑作”The Island Life EP / Carib’s Leap (West End Blue)”等のヒット作を手掛け注目を浴びる。06年には自身で立ち上げた”Global Soul Music (ex Tea Party Music)”レーベルをスタート。1st Releaseとなる “Byron Moore / Life Starts Today (Global Soul Music)” は、Timmy Regisford, Louie Vega, Osunlade, Danny Krivit, Joe Clausell, Kevin Hedge, Jihad Muhammad等、多くのTop DJにPlayされ話題を呼んだ。また07年のマイアミウィンターミュージックカンファレンスでは、3作目となる “Anto Vitale / Theorema Del Faya (Global Soul Music)” が大ヒットし、”Louie Vega / Lust : Art & Soul (Su Su)” を始め、数々のコンピレーションアルバムにも収録。その後も、自身の”Global Soul Music”レーベルを始め、King Street, Phuture Sole Recordings, Yoruba Records, Papa等、様々なレーベルにてリミックスを手掛けるなど、サウンドクリエーターとしても人気を不動のものとしている。DJ/サウンドクリエーターとして今、最も活躍が期待されているIan Friday、約10年ぶりとなる待望の再来日！更なる進化を遂げたブラックネス溢れるDJプレイは、絶対見逃せない！
Ian Friday is a Brooklyn-based DJ and sound creator who has been active in the NY underground scene for a long time. Since ’94, he organized the Sunday afternoon party “Tea Party” in Brooklyn. This party gained popularity as a hot topic in NYC, with R&B and Hip Hop artists like Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Saundra St.Victor, Vernon Reid, Corey Glover, and Saul Williams participating. Although the party was extremely popular among dancers and artists, it unfortunately went on hiatus in the early 2000s.
Currently, he hosts his Mix Show, “Libation Live” (https://www.twitch.tv/ianfriday), via weekly live streaming on Twitch, and organizes “Libation” which he holds in various locations across Manhattan and Brooklyn, serving as a resident DJ himself.
In addition, he has often played as a guest DJ at clubs in Italy, London, Paris, and Korea, as well as at events such as Timmy Regisford’s “SHELTER” and Tony Touch’s “Funkbox NYC.” His unique play style, which freely mixes carefully selected House, Techno, Jazz, Afro, Latin, Reggae, Soul, Rock, Garage, and Disco Classics, has garnered tremendous support from the local crowd and music lovers worldwide.
He was also affiliated with the long-established NY label West End Records, and seriously began his production career around 2003. He gained attention with hit works such as his first productions, “Blaze / We Are One – Dub Mix (Rmx/King Street),” “Blaze / The Found Love – Mix CD (Produce / West End),” and the masterpiece under his own name, “The Island Life EP / Carib’s Leap (West End Blue).” In 2006, he launched his own label, “Global Soul Music (ex Tea Party Music)” The first release, “Byron Moore / Life Starts Today (Global Soul Music),” was played by many top DJs including Timmy Regisford, Louie Vega, Osunlade, Danny Krivit, Joe Clausell, Kevin Hedge, and Jihad Muhammad, creating a buzz.
At the Miami Winter Music Conference in 2007, his third work, “Anto Vitale / Theorema Del Faya (Global Soul Music),” became a huge hit and was included in numerous compilation albums, including “Louie Vega / Lust : Art & Soul (Su Su).” Since then, he has solidified his reputation as a sound creator, working on remixes for various labels such as his own “Global Soul Music,” King Street, Phuture Sole Recordings, Yoruba Records, and Papa.
Ian Friday, one of the most anticipated DJ/sound creators today, is making his long-awaited return to Japan after approximately 10 years! His evolving, blackness-infused DJ set is an absolute must-see!
