NYC HOUSEの歴史において重要な役割を担い続けているブランドの1つ、SHELTER。その創立メンバーとして知られるMerlin Bobbと、M2SOUL Music主宰であるMasaki Moriiによる共同制作の5作目。
グラミー受賞者であるBobby McFerrinを父に持ち、2024年にはBlue Note Tokyoで単独LIVEを披露したシンガーソングライターMadison McFerrin。そんな彼女が2025年6月にリリースしたアルバム”SCORPIO”のリードソング”Ain’t It Nice”を、原曲の美しさや心地良さを損なうことなくフロアユースなSOULFUL HOUSEへと昇華した。2人の合作では多幸感を得られる楽曲が多いのが特徴の1つであるが、今作でもやはり、思わず両手を挙げて上を見上げてしまいたくなるような瞬間が度々訪れる、極上の仕上がりとなっている。
余談ではあるが、Peven EverettやMaxwell、KEM、Mary J Bligeなど、SHELTER関係者の手によって多くの楽曲がRemix(Bootlegが多いが)されてきたアイコニックなシンガー達が居る。Madison McFerrinの楽曲も、Conway KeseyやDave D*Sol Riveraなどが既に多数のRemixを発表しており、今後彼女もアイコニックなシンガーの一員になるのではと筆者は密かに期待をしている。
Merlin Bobb, known as a founding member of SHELTER—a brand that continues to play a vital role in the history of NYC House—teams up with Masaki Morii, the head of M2SOUL Music, for their fifth joint production.
They take on “Ain’t It Nice” the lead single from singer-songwriter Madison McFerrin’s album SCORPIO, released in June 2025. Madison, whose father is Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin, recently performed a solo show at Blue Note Tokyo in 2024. Merlin Bobb and Masaki Morii have elevated the track into a dancefloor-ready SOULFUL HOUSE anthem without losing the beauty and warm feel of the original. A hallmark of their collaborations is the sense of euphoria they create, and this track is no exception—it’s a sublime production that features moments that make you want to throw your hands up and look to the ceiling.
As a side note, there is a lineage of iconic singers—such as Peven Everett, Maxwell, KEM, and Mary J. Blige—whose music has been heavily remixed (often bootlegged) by those affiliated with the SHELTER movement. Given that artists like Conway Kesey and Dave D*Sol Rivera have already released numerous remixes of Madison McFerrin’s tracks, I secretly anticipate that she may very well become the next member of this iconic group of singers.
